RECYCLING

SAVING THE PLANET ONE CAN AT A TIME

The Recycling Department is one of our core Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. Funded in part by CalRecycle, we provide recycling services to businesses and local agencies throughout Santa Clara County, including various community events.

As a CTE program, Recycling provides training in Customer Service, Logistics, and Environmental Stewardship. Students in this program are paid an hourly wage.

Within this department, we run four specific operations:

Collections

With over 150 clients in Santa Clara County, which include, schools, offices, restaurants, and bars, our teams collect recyclable materials at below market rates for recycling services.

Our collection operations also partner with school districts and cities for comprehensive service in their respective facilities.

CTE offerings to our students include drivers training (getting their drivers license), defensive driving, routing, use of the Recycle iQ management system, and customer service.

ECO ACADEMY

This is the material processing team, which takes the incoming materials from Collections and prepares them for post-use markets.

CTE offerings to our students include material identification, warehousing, forklift certification, and a complete curriculum about recycling and the environment which is conducted in-class and in-field.

Special Events

We partner with the City of San Jose and other local agencies to provide recycling services at more than 100 events annually.

CTE offerings to our students include driving, logistics, community involvement, and customer service.

Interns

Graduate students can be placed at various locations throughout Santa Clara County to act as the Recycling Coordinator of that location. They will spread the word about recycling and prepare materials for the Collection teams. Interns placed at community colleges will also be able to enroll in classes while assigned there.

CTE offerings for our students include project management, marketing, logistics, and customer service.
